HIMARI is the shikibuton Japanese homes use every day: firm at the center, softly quilted at the surface, and folded after airing.

With around 10 cm of loft and a filling that contains 25% wool, it keeps the steady support familiar from Japanese floor bedding.

HIMARI is made in our own workshop in Oyama, Tochigi, and sent directly from Japan by EMS.

MADE DEEPER FOR CUSTOMERS ABROAD

SORA keeps HIMARI's firm support idea and fold-away form, then builds it to around 12 cm for more depth under the body.

With a filling that contains 50% wool, it gives more depth under the shoulders and hips while staying firm underneath.

Choose SORA if you are a side sleeper or used to the depth of a Western mattress.

OFUTON KOBO began with a cotton shop in Tokyo in 1873. The same family standard now continues at its own factory in Tochigi.

We select the materials, prepare the layers, sew, inspect, and finish each shikibuton in Japan before it leaves for selected international markets.

What is a Japanese shikibuton?

The Japanese futon mattress used in homes across Japan

A shikibuton, the traditional Japanese floor mattress, is familiar in homes across Japan. It can be laid on tatami, a breathable bed base, a wooden floor or another suitable surface, then folded, aired or stored after use. This flexibility reflects the Japanese tradition of allowing one room to serve many purposes.

Are HIMARI and SORA made in Japan?

Yes. HIMARI and SORA are made and finished in our own workshop in Oyama, Tochigi, Japan by a bedding maker with roots beginning in 1873.

How are international orders shipped?

Shipping included. We process and ship your order within 2 business days (Japan time). Japan Post EMS delivery usually takes about 10 to 14 days after dispatch.

Which size measurements should I use?

Use the centimeter dimensions as the product record. Inch values are approximate references, so measure the floor, platform, or frame before ordering.

Which model feels firmer?

HIMARI has a balanced firm feel with approx. 10 cm of loft. SORA has a fuller balanced medium feel with approx. 12 cm of loft.

How should I air and dry a shikibuton?

Lift, fold, or stand it regularly so air reaches both sides and the surface underneath. Turn it periodically and keep the base dry.
